Courteney Cox: David and I Have Gone to Couples Therapy

Wednesday, Jul 14, 2010

Public attention is usually focused on the love life of her BFF Jennifer Aniston, but Courteney Cox is now opening up about her own marriage.

In a remarkably candid InStyle interview – to which the Cougar Town star, 46, arrived minus her wedding ring – Cox admits that her 11-year union with David Arquette has had its ups and downs.

“We’ve done couples therapy in the past. We’re not lazy about our marriage,” Cox says in the magazine’s August issue, on newsstands Friday. “We have the same arguments we’ve had for years.”

Disagreements are something that exist in every marriage, and Cox says she doesn’t expect them to ever be fully resolved. “Some things just never change, and you should realize that the intriguing things you fall in love with will probably become the things that you don’t like,” she says, “and the very things that you’ll be talking about for the rest of your relationship.”

Luckily, their domestic issues don’t sound all that dramatic, and they have made some changes to suit their lives as a couple. “If we didn’t live together, David wouldn’t even notice if a lightbulb had burned out!” Cox says. “He collects things; I don’t. When we first lived together, I lived with [his] clown paintings, bobbleheads … I couldn’t do that now.”

The actress does cop to some fantasy world crushes on Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson, whom she calls “cute.” “How old is he? I saw one picture of him and he looked dangerous; I like it,” she says of the Twilight star, 24. “That’s a really pretty face. I might feel insecure around him.”

But her real-life love for Arquette – father of their 6-year-old daughter Coco – goes deeper. “One thing is, I let David be himself and he lets me be myself,” Cox says. “You have to make an effort to stay connected, and that’s something we work at.”

Cox aims for Emmy nomination

Friday, Jul 2, 2010

Courteney Cox was the only “Friends” cast member who wasn’t nominated for an Emmy.

Now, the golden lady could be hers for “Cougar Town.”

When the nominations are announced Thursday, she’s expected to be among the Best Actress in a Comedy Series category.

The reason: Physical comedy.

As the forty-something real estate agent looking for love, she’s constantly climbing, clamoring and collapsing in ways that draw laughs.

“I love physical comedy,” she explains. “I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I’m kinda goofy anyway.”

Sometimes the pratfalls are easy. Sometimes they’re painful. “I had an operation on my knees and it can hurt if I fall the wrong way. But I still play tennis.”

Because she had just spent considerable time producing and starring in “Dirt,” Cox wasn’t eager to slip into another show right away. But Executive Producer Bill Lawrence crafted “Cougar Town” with her in mind and the result is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things.

“It’s the greatest experience I’ve had,” Cox says. “Our company conceived ‘Dirt.’ We hired the writer. It became his creation and I wasn’t going to be in it. But Bill is writing for my personality. He knows what will make me shine…I haven’t had that before.”

The two enjoyed a shake-down cruise on Lawrence’s previous show, “Scrubs.” Cox was a guest star.

“And she was the easiest and most fun person to work with,” Lawrence says.

They began batting around ideas and Lawrence hit upon the idea of featuring a divorced woman in her 40s.

“Getting older is hard anyway but living in Hollywood’s exceptionally hard doing it,” Cox says. “What I love about this character is everything’s real. It would be really scary if I wasn’t married and I had to go back out there again. And it is true. Most men date women who are younger.”

The “cougar” aspect? That’s the older woman/younger man angle.

While researching, the two discovered there were all sorts of versions — pumas, jaguars, saber-tooths, panthers.

Cox’s “Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston is making a movie called “Pumas” but, she says, it’s not a rip-off. Indeed, Lawrence would like Aniston to make a guest appearance.

“You write her a character,” Cox says, “and I”m sure she’ll be glad to do it. Jennifer loves the show.”

So does Cox’s 6-year-old daughter Coco. She visits the set frequently and has fallen for Dan Byrd, the young actor who plays Cox’s son. “She does love older men,” mom says.

To prove she’s game for just about anything, Cox let Lawrence film a scene in which she’s bemoaning her belly fat. She stands in a mirror and adjusts a layer of skin.

“I’ve been doing that forever,” Cox admits. “(Husband David Arquette) is always saying to me, ‘Courteney, please put your shirt down and stop showing everyone your belly.’ Once I had a kid, I was fascinated by that whole thing. So I do that…and I do have that skin.”

Lawrence says it’s really hard to make his star look bad but “she has been really candid about the smoke and mirrors of Hollywood.” She openly tells people a team has worked on her before she looks glamorous at an industry event.

Now, she faces the likelihood of walking Emmy’s red carpet.

A nomination for “Cougar Town”? It’s entirely possible thanks to a new friend named Bill.

Busy Philipps Praises Cougar Town Co-star Courteney Cox

Tuesday, Jun 29, 2010

Busy Philipps has described her Cougar Town co-star Courteney Cox as “incredibly open”.

Philipps explained that Cox has taught her a lot during the time they have worked together.

“Comedically, you can’t buy the kind of experience she got when she was on Friends,” she said. “But seeing how she brings that into her producing of the show too, how she’s very hands-on and how that works for her, has been really rewarding and informing.”

Philipps continued: “She’s not just a producer on our show in title only. She give script notes, she’s in the editing room all the time, she’s always watching cuts of the show.”

However, Philipps explained that she feels comfortable working with Cox even though the star also produces the programme.

“When we’re working together as actors, we’re just working together as actors,” she said. “She’s more of a creative producer, more that than a cracking the whip type. She’s an incredibly open person. I think because she was such a big part of such a big show for years, she decided she couldn’t hide anything, because it would come out anyway.”

Courteney Cox: ‘I like pushing limits’

Monday, Mar 29, 2010
Courteney Cox has admitted that she is much ruder than her Cougar Town character.

The actress explained that she loves filming sex scenes for the show, The People reports.

“I’m pretty dirty, so I love pushing it to that limit,” she said. “There’s a part when my son walks in on me when I’m with this younger man, and that’s happened to a friend of mine. She pretended to be like, ‘Oh, there you are’.”

Cox added that the conversations her character has in the show are realistic.

“This is just girls talking, real-life stuff,” she explained. “My friend Christa Miller who is in Cougar Town was over last night and our conversations were a thousand times worse than the ones we have on the show.”

She continued: “I think it’s important to be relevant and real and I like to push things, but I’m surprised what we’ve got away with. And I hope it stays that way.”

Courteney Can’t Work Out How Old People In Hollywood Are

Saturday, Mar 27, 2010

Courteney Cox can’t work out how old most people in Hollywood are as they’ve all had so much plastic surgery.

The actress loves living in Los Angeles, but admits there are some strange aspects to her life there. She is currently appearing in TV show Cougar Town, in which she plays a divorcee who starts dating younger guys. Courteney says there are lots of cougars where she lives, although it can be hard to tell their actual age as they all undergo copious cosmetic operations.

“It’s strange because I used to think cougars were women who had excessive amounts of plastic surgery and wanted to look young to date guys,” she explained. “It was just, like, inappropriate. But now I think they’re simply women who feel confident enough to go out with younger men, just like men have been doing their whole lives. But I can’t tell how old anyone is these days anyway – particularly in Hollywood. It’s ridiculous!”

Courteney, 45, has five-year-old daughter Coco with her husband David Arquette, 38. She loves partying with other cougars, explaining they often make her laugh.

She told Look magazine..

“Yes, I had a cougar over to my house on Sunday,I didn’t ask her if she watched the show but she was a fully-fledged, no doubt about it, cougar.”
