Courteney Cox says she was too shy for Hollywood career

Tuesday, Aug 17, 2010

While Jennifer Aniston made a bounty in Hollywood after finishing off ‘Friends’, her co-star and friend in the hit sitcom Courteney Cox has said that she was just too shy to venture for the big screen.

The 46-year-old, who played Monica Geller, watched Jennifer, 41, take a string of lead roles in Hollywood flicks, but says she did not have the confidence to go to auditions.

“I always talked myself out of going in to read. I don’t know if I had that much confidence,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“I was always thinking I needed to do something else, be more mysterious,” she added.

Courteney, who managed to land a role in the Scream films despite her shyness, has gone on to front popular comedy series Cougar Town, playing a divorcee in her 40s.

She admits she is “much more content” but says she is still hurt by having been the only one of the Friends cast not to have been nominated for an Emmy award.

“My ego got really bruised. When everyone did but me that doesn’t feel good at all. There were certain years I thought, ‘Maybe I have a shot’, like the Monica-Chandler years. I don’t know how it happens and why. Maybe I wasn’t ready,” she told Emmy magazine.

The actress, who is married to actor David Arquette with whom she has a six-year-old daughter Coco, also said that “ageing is nobody’s friend”.

“One second ago I was the youngest person on the set and now I’m the oldest. I’m so old my joints hurt when I keep my legs crossed a certain way for too long. I need glasses to see a movie, to see the computer and to read a book,” she said.

Courteney Cox: ‘I avoided rom-coms’

Monday, Aug 16, 2010

Courteney Cox has revealed that she never pursued starring in romantic comedies as a younger actress.

The Cougar Town star admitted that she lacked the self-esteem to dive into the genre but has claimed that at 46 years old she is now confident enough to take on any role.

Speaking to Emmy magazine, she said: “I always talked myself out of going in to read. I don’t know if I had that much confidence. [Today] I’m much more content. I was always thinking that I needed to do something else, be more mysterious. I felt the need to prove myself. Now I’m not going to be the ingénue anymore. I’m probably not going to do a lot of the things that I wish I had done, but now I don’t care.”

The actress also insisted that after an 11-year marriage to David Arquette, she still can’t believe how “different” the two are from one another.

Cox added: “He was pretty dangerous, like a bad boy. I was so young. We’re so different that each year I can’t believe how different we are. The one thing that’s similar is that we have a similar sense of humour. Well, no, that’s not true. We do not have a similar sense of humour, but his is so broad that I fit in part of it. He’s a unique human being, and a real character.”

Courteney Cox: “I Try to Always Be As Green As Possible” for Coco

Wednesday, Aug 11, 2010

When it comes to raising her 6-year-old daughter with hubby David Arquette, Scream 4 star Courteney Cox wants to ensure Coco grows up to appreciate the earth.

“I try to always be as green as possible,” the actress, 46, tells UsMagazine.com. “For Coco, I got her Organic Matters [products], which Jen Meyer told me about.”

Organic Matters — which sells everything from bedding to beauty products — offers a wide assortment of organic, natural and recycled alternatives to many commercially manufactured goods.

And Meyer — a highly sought-after jewelry designer who wed Spiderman‘s Tobey Maguire in 2007 — also inspired her pal to switch to more eco-friendly beauty products.

“She told me about this one called Weleda,” Cox says. “It’s this shampoo and body wash. It’s natural and great — I use it on Coco!”

When her daughter isn’t learning about how to be green, Cox says Coco is just like any other girl her age.

“She’s into Barbies,” the Cougar Town star tells Us. “She likes Barbies a lot!”

And although the actress says she doesn’t know if she’ll have anymore children, she does offer some sage advice for new moms: “Be patient!”

David Arquette: Working with Courteney on New Scream Is ‘Cathartic’

Saturday, Aug 7, 2010

Fans may turn to Scream for their horror film fix, but for David Arquette, the movie is a source of nostalgia.

“It’s really amazing working with Neve [Campbell] and Courteney and [director] Wes [Craven] and all of the crewmembers that we’ve known for 14 years,” the actor, 28, told PEOPLE Thursday at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles, where he screened his 3D short The Butler’s In Love.

In addition to teaming up again with his wife of 11 years, Arquette also got a chance to revisit the place where their relationship kicked off while filming the franchise’s fourth installment in Michigan.

“I met my wife [Courteney] on the first [film] and now we have a kid and it’s just been a real trip,” says Arquette, who previously described the Scream movie as “sort of an amazing marker throughout our lives.”

“There’s this weird element that, you know, it’s very cathartic for me,” he adds. “It’s just kind of going back to where it all started.”

The Arquettes also made it a family affair, bringing 6-year-old daughter Coco to the set, though they sheltered her from “any of the scary stuff.”

“That was really great to have that family time,” he says.
