TV Squad Reviews Cougar Town

Tuesday, Jul 14, 2009

Cougar Town (Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET. premieres Sept. 23)

Premise of the screener: Courteney Cox stars as a divorced single mother trying to balance dating, aging, and raising her teenage son in a beauty and youth obsessed culture. The comedy is written and produced by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence.

Mike says: The first few minutes of Cougar Town felt a little like a Robin Williams stand-up routine. There were a million jokes rushing at me at once, but only about half of them were funny. Thankfully, the show soon settled into a great groove offering tons of laugh-out-loud moments. A lot of the credit should go to Lawrence. Dude knows how to write the funny. But Cox also deserves some praise. She’s great as an aging and insecure divorcee who seems to have no interior monologue. She was rarely this funny on Friends.

I didn’t find the show’s premise very appealing, but this is a comedy not a relationship drama. What really matters here are the jokes, the tone and the cast. Cougar Town delivers on all of those levels. Like he did with Scrubs, Lawrence has packed his new show with very talented comedic actors (Busy Philipps, Christa Miller, Ian Gomez) who hit all the right notes and seem to be in tune with his calculated, quirky style. (And yes, it seems like the town the characters live in is called Cougartown.)

Courteney Cox is a happy wife

Wednesday, Jul 8, 2009

Courteney Cox- Arquette is adamant her marriage to actor David Arquette has never been happier.
Courteney Cox insists her marriage has never been better.

The former ‘Friends’ actress – who has been plagued by constant rumours her 10-year union to David Arquette is in trouble – says she is enjoying every aspect of her life and never imagined she could be so happy.

Courtney – who has a five-year-old daughter Coco with David – said: “I can honestly say that I have the best marriage, the best husband and the best daughter. They are the things that have given me real happiness – so much more than anything else. I don’t think I ever thought I would end up as happy as I am today.

“What I love about David is that he thinks I’m a great wife. Isn’t that fantastic? I love that. And he tells me, too, which is even better.”

The 45-year-old star also revealed she has only just become comfortable with her looks.

She told Grazia magazine: “When I was younger I did struggle with my confidence. I was self-critical and I guess suddenly becoming famous puts all this pressure on you, people talking about the way you look and what you wear. When I look back at old pictures of myself now, I think, ‘Hey, I looked great,’ but at the time I was always worrying. I actually feel so much better about myself now but it has taken time to feel this way.”

Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Sheryl Crow Campaign for Congolese Women’s Rights

Monday, Jun 29, 2009

Actresses Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston and singer Sheryl Crow co-hosted a dinner to help raise awareness for the campaign as well as to raise money. All three spoke to Access Hollywood:

“[OmniPeace is] building this place called the City of Joy,” said Cox, an ambassador for the organization. “It’s a healing center for women and children who have been violated.”

OmniPeace is selling specially designed t-shirts in order to help fund the City of Joy, and many celebrities find donating profits that have been generated through consumerism to be a good idea.

“There are so many looming causes that need everyone to be involved in and everyone to be conscious of,” said Crow. “This is one that I really think does escape people because it’s not happening in our own country and it’s so foreign – the idea of using rape as warfare – that a lot of people close their eyes to it. In our own way of consumer-ship, we can have a voice in what happens over there.”

The t-shirts feature drawings by the child victims at the center’s art therapy program.

“[The t-shirt logo] are images that have been made into a collage from these children,” explains Aniston. “You can see all of these drawings. It’s quite disturbing to know that this is what is in front of them… It’s excruciating. [This] is what they see in front of their eyes.”
