Did Courteney Cox Want More Friends? “I Wish We Hadn’t Stopped”

Friday, Mar 25, 2011

I’ll get to the end of Friends and Cougar Town finale scoop in a sec, but first let’s talk Courteney Cox and Scream 4.

Most of the cast won’t reveal if they’re signed on for sequels 5 and 6 because that sort of gives away whether they’re killed in this new fourth installment.

However, Cox will tell ya…

“I’m actually not,” she admitted to me yesterday while promoting the newly hatched Ghost Face killer flick, out April 15. “I mean, I can’t really say, but you know she could always die and I can always come back in a dream. But if I didn’t die, you know, it’ll just depend on if it all comes together.”

A true Hollywood veteran who’s been down this road before, she gives an answer that leaves all the doors open.

It’s been many years since Cox played Gale Weathers, but she didn’t mind going back. “I love Gale Weathers,” she said. “I love her tenacity. She’s just a strong-willed woman. And I think she’s a little fame-hungry and power-hungry and that’s why it’s so fun to play her.”

She’s also a bit envious with how “selfish” Gale could be. “I’m not in real life,” Cox smiled. “I wish I was a little more selfish.”

As for Cougar Town, there’s a big one-hour season finale coming in May. Now, it’s not a musical episode. “We’re dealing with something pretty heavy,” Cox teased. “You haven’t seen it yet, but someone wants to have kids and someone doesn’t. That’s all I can tell you about that.”

She quickly added, “I hope I don’t get in trouble for that.”

We’d like to assume she’s talking about Jules and Grayson (Josh Hopkins). And with that in mind, will those two ever get married? “I would say one day,” Cox said. “I think that as long as the audience is liking it and it’s working out, they’ll keep it going and they’ll be dealing with real-life issues.”

Cox says she has no timeline for Cougar Town, but would like it to go for at least five seasons.

“Ten’s a long time, but I wish we hadn’t stopped,” Cox said referring to Friends. “It would’ve been nice to do 11.”

What could they have done? “Oh my gosh. I don’t know, but I was watching an episode the other and day and it still holds up! Just holds up!”

Perhaps it’s time for that Friends movie. What do you think? Should there be a Friends flick? Sound off below.

Courteney Cox on David Arquette: ‘I’m So Proud of Him’

Thursday, Mar 24, 2011

“Extra’s” Renee Bargh talked to the “Scream 4” actress about her ex, David Arquette, and his road to healing.

The two were spotted together in Malibu last weekend and Renee asked Courteney how she felt about the new and improved Arquette. Cox exclaimed, “Oh my God, I’m so proud of him!” She went on to say, “Best he’s ever looked! He’s so cute that I’m like, dude, I don’t understand. Really?! Why are you that cute right now?”

“Our communication and the way we are, just learning about each other in a different way, it’s smart,” Courteney revealed. “It’s weird to be at this age and look at ourselves but it’s hard and it’s important and I’m glad we are, so I love him,” she added.

David Arquette, now on the road to recovery, previously spoke to Renee about his sobriety and said he refused to take medication. “Part of being sober is I didn’t want to be on any pain medication because you know sobriety is really important to me right now.”

Courteney, 46, said she maintains her own health and fitness through the Tracy Anderson Method. “That will really kick your butt pretty hard. I’m not one of those people who’s like, ‘Oh, I eat donuts and I don’t know why I stay so thin!'”

See Courteney and David reunite in “Scream 4,” in theaters April 15.

Courteney Cox & David Arquette Reunite at Scream 4 Event

Thursday, Mar 24, 2011

They may have been at work – but Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s lingering affection for each other still came across.

The estranged couple often looked at one another, smiled and shared a few quiet laughs during a short press conference Wednesday for Scream 4 at L.A.’s Mondrian Hotel.

When asked what was special about filming this movie, which opens April 15, both actors said it came down to family – even though theirs has been in major upheaval over the past year.

“There’s a real family feeling,” said Arquette, 39. “Especially with Courteney being married and having a kid [their 6-year-old daughter Coco], it just brings an honesty, and that is really my favorite part of acting.”

“It felt very natural,” added Cox, 46. “We have had 10 more years of experience of acting, so I was that much more confident. I am now a mom, and I am just different person, but it’s coming back with your family. You know each other, and you kind of just get right back into it and [are] better than you were last time.”

Cox even compared her onscreen relationship with Arquette – she plays Gail Weathers to his Dewey Riley – to their offscreen life.

“It is so funny that he is so earnest and she is so out to get ahead,” she says. “It is just a very odd pairing, and so are we. Well, we are not really, but we kind of are. I love playing Gail. She is probably the most fun to play when it comes to playing a real character.”

Courteney Cox: ‘Exiting social life, entering isolation’

Tuesday, Mar 15, 2011

Incompatibility was one problem with her marriage to David Arquette, Courteney Cox says in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar, out March 29.

“The thing is, when you get older, it’s more about compatibility than it is about love,” she says. “I think it’s more about needing just a kind of peace and stillness. I’m kind of all over the place, and I need grounding. I want to be calm. I want to change a lot. I want to live not outside but inside. It’s nothing with David; it’s just what I’m searching for.”

Cox says she isn’t mad at Arquette for being so chatty about their breakup. “He was dealing with things the best way he could.” She pauses. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I don’t think he’ll be doing more Howard Stern any time soon. He’s not out to harm. But I’m his biggest protector. I can’t help it.”

Their seven-year age gap—Courteney is 46 to David’s 39—doesn’t register to her as the crux of their issues. “Most guys aren’t that mature, are they? They just don’t think the way we think.”

On rumors of an affair with her Cougar Town co-star Brian Van Holt?

She flatly denies: “He’s a really good friend of mine, so I don’t care,” says Cox. “It just doesn’t matter. He’s a great guy, and he’s definitely been a part of my support system.”

The former Friends star also says she can’t see herself diving into the dating pool any time soon.

“I have no desire right now,” she admits. “I’m not saying never. It just seems weird. I don’t even know how that would happen or how you meet people. I really don’t like to go out. I’m not great at small talk. I like to go to dinner with people. I don’t like to go to parties. There’s a sign on my forehead: EXITING SOCIAL LIFE, ENTERING INTO ISOLATION.”

‘Cougar Town’ acting its age

Wednesday, Feb 23, 2011

With Courteney Cox’s “Cougar Town” settling into its second season, the sitcom has gotten away from its attention-grabbing title — especially now that Cox’s character, Jules, is settling down with her neighbor and boyfriend, Grayson (Josh Hopkins). Cox spoke with Metro about the changes — and cases of wine — the show is going through.

What did you think of your character finding a long-term relationship so soon?

I think it’s just a new approach. It’s a functioning relationship, but with two kind of really non-functioning people in some ways. I mean, Grayson doesn’t really know how to have a relationship.

When did wine become such a central part of the show?

You know, I do like wine, there’s no question, and [creator] Bill [Lawrence] does like to take things from our personal lives and put them in the story, but he exaggerates. So yes, I like wine and yes, I might fill a glass more than other people. And it’s not that the wine is real — although sometimes it is. You know, late in the day sometimes.

Will we see any other “Friends” on the show?

I don’t know. I mean, Matthew’s got his own show. Matt LeBlanc has got his own show. Lisa and Jennifer have already done it. And Schwimmer is probably doing so many things — probably directing — and just got married. I don’t know. I don’t think so.

Matthew Perry Talks Cougar Town

Wednesday, Feb 9, 2011

Matthew Perry made a short mention of Cougar Town/Courteney in a recent interview

Will we see you on Cougar Town ever?

MP: I sort of subscribe to that thing where I want a little bit of time to establish my character in this. I love the show, I think Courtney obviously is hilarious and a really good friend of mine. I just want there to be a little more distance before we do that. I didn’t think that people would be able to watch it and not see Chandler and Monica. But I think if my show is lucky enough, to go on playing with different people, maybe.
