Kevin Williamson Offers More on Scream 4

Friday, Jan 29, 2010

The promise of a new Scream trilogy has a lot of fans buzzing as like it or not, the franchise totally revitalized the tired slasher subgenre in the 1990’s. It seems that every so often we get a little more news on the upcoming Scream 4 to entice us further. Ready for the latest? Read on!

In an interview with IESB Williamson dropped the following:

“I’m almost done with the first draft of Scream 4,” he tells the site. “I’m trying to get that together for Wes Craven. We’ve got to get going on that, during the [Vampire Diaries] hiatus. We have Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Dave Arquette. I was always holding out hope because the pitch was about those three characters. I didn’t want to have to re-route the whole story. We don’t have to do that. I can do it exactly the way I wanted. The story is going to be told the way I originally conceived it.”

As for who will be picking up the knife as Ghostface:

“Well, that’s the whole point of the movie. What I have always liked about this movie versus other horror films is that I feel like there are characters. In other horror movies you remember Michael Meyers and you remember Jason. In our film I think you remember Sydney Prescott because Sydney Prescott’s the victim and she has lasted for all three of these movies. The fun of the film is that it’s Sydney Prescott. That’s the difference, and you care about her. I want to write a story where you actually care about our characters and it’s a plot that you watch them walk through. It’s not all about the next kill. It’s not all about slice and dice. I was watching Saw VI on pay-per-view the other night, and I was like, ‘This is really just going from one kill to the next to the next.’ It’s fun, but I want to tell a story.”

During the interview Williamson also verifies he’s confirmed for Scream 4 and Scream 5 but is still in negotiations for Scream 6. Hit up the link for the entire interview.

Scream 4 Synopsis
The horror series that reignited the genre and grossed more than $500 million worldwide is back! From Kevin Williamson, creator of the original Scream trilogy, the new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette along with a group of new stars, who can all hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise!

EXCLUSIVE: David Arquette Confirms Wes Craven ‘Is In’ For ‘Scream 4’

Monday, Jan 18, 2010

In the twilight months of 2009, “Scream 4” went from fan fantasy to in-development reality. Series creator Kevin Williamson almost lost his star, Neve Campbell. He later told us, in November, that the writing of the sequel “going good.” Just a month later, Campbell said pretty much the same thing, revealing that shooting would get underway in April ’10 and that she was “pretty sure” director Wes Craven would be back to direct.

There’s never been any official confirmation in that regard. So tonight on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards, MTV’s Josh Horowitz hit up happy couple and “Scream” stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox for the latest word on Craven and all things “Scream”…

“Yes, Wes [Craven] is in, Neve [Campbell] is in, everyone is in,” Arquette said. The lovely Cox didn’t sound as sure however.

“I know they’re trying to make that work,” she said, referring to bringing the “Nightmare on Elm Street” creator back on to direct. “They’ll make it work,” she said, quickly adding “I hope.”

The two seem excited to get back to their “Scream” roles. It’s not only a high-profile gig; the happily married couple also met while shooting “Scream.” It’s no surprise that they’re game to go back for more.

“I can’t wait to do another ‘Scream,'” David told us. Soon enough. If all goes according to plan, the cameras will start rolling sometime in April.

How important is Craven’s return to the continued health of the series? Would you have been there opening day even if he weren’t coming back?

‘The pressure on actresses to look a certain way is incredible’, Courteney Cox on ageing

Saturday, Jan 16, 2010

My husband, the actor David Arquette, tells me how wonderful the ageing process can be, but I think it’s easier for men. It’s a big adjustment to realise you are not the youngest girl in the room any more, to see men going for the perky little 20-year-old over you, and to discover that men are not as attracted to you anymore.

My new show, Cougar Town, has a lot to say about women and ageing, which are two subjects I know a lot about. I play Jules, who is 40-plus, divorced and dating again. She can’t believe how much the singles scene has changed. She is the most complex character I have ever played on TV and I just love her.

A ‘cougar’ is an older woman who is attracted to younger men, be they her son’s friends or her daughter’s teen idols such as Zac Efron.I do think that life is tough for women over 40. I can’t imagine being back out there again trying to date. It’s doubly hard ageing in Hollywood. I was already worried about getting older when I was 30.

I’m 45 now and I realise how silly it was to be so concerned with all that when I didn’t have to be. Now, I like to think I have more perspective. The pressure on actresses to look a certain way is incredible. I have always been open about what I have done to help myself look as good as I can be. As you get older, your body and your face naturally change. I tried Botox, but it wasn’t for me.

I am an actor, I need to be able to move my face, to show emotion. Having my five-year-old daughter, Coco, helps me stay in shape.Running around after her burns up a lot of calories. I also work out as often as I can.I do lots of cardio during the week and I love playing tennis at the weekend.I should do more, but who has the time? There are downsides to the ageing process, but there are many advantages, too. I know myself much better now.

I am always working on improving myself. I am still so amazed that I am a mother.Every day, my daughter brings such a smile to my face. She does the silliest things and we just love laughing together.

I also know now that I deserve this wonderful life I have. And I would like to think I have more confidence in myself. David and I have a production company that we named Coquette – a combination of our last names.I would never have taken on the role of producer when I was younger. Now I thrive on being part of the whole creative process. I know what I enjoy, and what is important in my life, and that stops me worrying unnecessarily.

Age gives you that perspective.

ABC ANNOUNCES EARLY PICK-UPS OF HIT WEDNESDAY NIGHT COMEDIES “COUGAR TOWN,” “THE MIDDLE” AND “MODERN FAMILY” FOR THE 2010-11 SEASON

Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, announced early pick-ups of hit Wednesday night comedies “Cougar Town,” “The Middle” and “Modern Family” for the 2010-2011 Season today at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

“Cougar Town” (Wednesdays from 9:30-10:00 p.m., ET)

Courteney Cox, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role on the show, stars as Jules, a newly divorced single mother exploring the honest truths about dating and aging in our beauty and youth obsessed culture. While most women in their twenties go through life experiencing the challenges and often humorous pitfalls of meeting men, Jules took on the responsibilities of marriage and raising a son. Now in her forties, she embarks on a journey to self-discovery.

The second-most-watched new comedy on television this season, behind only “Modern Family,” ABC’s “Cougar Town” ranks No. 2 on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. in Adults, Men and Women 18-34. The freshman comedy is also improving the time period year to year for ABC by wide margins across the key Men demos: M18-34 +50%, M18-49 +63% and M25-54 +43%. On its most-recent telecast (1/6/10), “Cougar Town” marked its highest viewer and young adult numbers in nearly 2 months – since 10/14/09.

“Cougar Town” stars Courteney Cox as Jules, Christa Miller as Ellie, Busy Philipps as Laurie, Dan Byrd as Travis, Josh Hopkins as Grayson, Ian Gomez as Andy and Brian Van Holt as Bobby.

Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs,” “Spin City”) serves as executive producer/writer/director, Kevin Biegel (“Scrubs”) as executive producer/writer, and Courteney Cox and David Arquette are executive producers. The series is produced by ABC Studios.

Potential Courteney Cox Food Truck Sitcom in The Works

Tuesday, Jan 12, 2010

2009_12_arquettes.jpg OK! reported earlier this month that Friends star Courteney Cox and her husband David Arquette are in the planning stages for a new show about New York City street food. “It’s called Eat Street, about street vendors in New York City and the whole subculture about these pop-up bistros,” Arquette tells the rag. Though it’s still early, insiders suspect ABC, which airs the couple’s new show Cougar Town, will add it to their 2010 lineup.
