Cougar Town Actors Face Off Against Writers on Vulture

Wednesday, Feb 16, 2011

Much like the Parks and Recreation crew during their downtime, the Cougar Town cast and crew are going to be keeping busy on Vulture during their two-month hiatus. Creators Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel have kindly agreed to put their downtime to good use by settling a series of long-simmering disputes between the show’s actors and writers right here on Vulture. Each week, a different cast member will help air out a rift between him or herself and the scribes — and then settle said grievance once and for all. This week, we kick off with Dan Byrd, who plays Courteney Cox’s long-suffering son, Travis. Turns out his Bieber-simple hairstyle is the subject of much scorn on the show’s set, and the time has come for an intervention. Click the video to see what happens, then come back to Vulture every Wednesday for a new grudge match.?

Courteney Cox makes an appearance on food show

Monday, Feb 14, 2011

It seems former ‘Friends’ star Courteney Cox is looking into enhancing her cooking skills after she made an appearance on a food show.
Cox, 46, appeared on ‘The Next Food Network Star’ with celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

“The show is filmed on the same lot as ‘Cougar Town’, so it was easy for her to come over and appear as a guest judge,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

The actress was last week photographed with a walking stick on her Los Angeles set after she had some minor knee surgery.

Exclusive: Cougar Town is Going to Hawaii!

Friday, Feb 4, 2011

Somewhere, there’s a resort in Hawaii stocking up on merlot. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Cougar Town has finalized a deal to shoot its second-season finale on location in the Aloha State!

On second thought, maybe all the resorts in Hawaii are stocking up on wine.

Anyway, no further details on the sure-to-be-intoxicating sweeps stunt are as yet available, but it seems pretty safe to say that the CDS Crew will be going on a little family vacation. (Do they do anything alone?) Perhaps the jaunt is to celebrate Travis successfully completing his freshman year of college? Jules and Grayson getting engaged? Laurie… well, just being Laurie?

Whatever the reason, it’s becoming something of a tradition for ABC to send its comedies to Hawaii. Last year, you’ll recall, Modern Family shot an episode in Maui. Frankly, though, with Cougar Town off the air for the next (gasp! shudder!) 10 weeks (in a — sob! — row!), I think we deserve the trip, don’t we?

Thoughts? Lei it on the line below…

Cougar Town Boss Teases Extra Content To Get Through Break

Wednesday, Feb 2, 2011

This Wednesday at 9:30/8:30c, Cougar Town uncorks its last fresh episode for 10-1/2 weeks. That’s right, there’s a “1/2? added in there now that ABC has decided to welcome the sophomore comedy back with a special aprés-Dancing With the Stars time slot on Monday, April 18.

So the good news is that although Matthew Perry’s Mr. Sunshine will claim Cougar Town‘s Wednesday slot starting February 9, and while you now have an additional five days to wait for Jules & Co. to crack open a new bottle of cab, the show will get an ultra-premium showcase upon its return.

There’s also this: “We have plans to provide all sorts of extra content (as you will see during the next ep’s title card) during this gap,” series boss Bill Lawrence shared in a “thank you” letter to us press types. (Hmm, maybe the online version of Penny Can will be kicked up a notch, allowing me a chance to break 70,000 points or “toss copper” from Bobby’s boat?)

Lawrence says he himself is “bummed” about the midseason break “because the last chunk of episodes are really about something.” Explaining that the writers’ yearly formula kicks off with of a short story arc (this season: Travis’ relocation to college) followed by “10-12 vibey-hang out episodes,” when Cougar Town resumes in April the big theme will revolve around “Travis’ descent, and watching him surprisingly follow his Dad’s footsteps.”

“We really love it,” Lawrence says of the springtime run of episodes. “Hope you do, too, when you finally see it.”

But enough with the preemptive wine-ing, folks. Slap out of it and get psyched for tonight’s new episode!
