Courteney Cox Interview on Cougar Town and Scream 4 From 2011 Winter TCA

Thursday, Jan 13, 2011

Courteney Cox sat down with reporters to talk about her quirky series, how it’s helped her at this time in her life, how she’s different from her Scream 4 costars, and her old Friends costar Matt LeBlanc’s new series Episodes.

Has the show been a good escape for difficult times in your life?
Courteney Cox: Oh yeah. Thank God for the show. There have been times that Bill has said, “Do you need to take a break?” And [I say] “Are you kidding?” This is my saving grace.

Is there any chance Sheryl Crow will come back?
CC: We had fun with her! And she had fun, she said. She really liked it. I don’t know, maybe!

How was it stepping back into the Scream franchise?
CC: That character is really over the top, and I just realized that was 10 years ago; all of the actors on the set, the new group, they’re very subdued, kind of quiet. And I stick out like a sore thumb; I was like “Gail Weathers is back!” Like, are they going to talk any louder at all? They are very cool, and I’m older, and not as cool. But I stepped into my character; we’ll see what happens. Dewey was Dewey! But then, you know, people have changed. People are cooler than me.

Is it true that there will be more Scream films after this one?
CC: There is going to be a Scream 4, 5, and 6. [But] I don’t know anything.

To find out what Cox said about her Friends days and Matt LeBlanc’s new series, just read more.

Have you seen Episodes yet?
CC: No! I can’t wait to see it.

Is there anything you wish you had done differently when you were on Friends?
CC: The one thing that I wished I hadn’t been back in those days, which I’ve changed, is [that] I’m not a competitive person at all, but I am a comparative person. And I don’t even want to be that. I don’t want to compare anymore. There’s a lot of stuff that can mess with your ego, being on a show with six people in an ensemble like that . . . It’s hard. It was a lot of learning for me. I wish I hadn’t ever spent time comparing.

How do you think you’ll feel when people start saying that they grew up watching you?
CC: I think they already have! I think it’s alright, I guess. I mean, I have a few more years before I feel bad.

Courteney Cox’s “Cougar Town” among early renewals for ABC

Monday, Jan 10, 2011

A half-dozen ABC shows have received early pickups for the 2011-12 TV season.

On the comedy side, ABC has assured that Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle are coming back.

On the drama side, ABC confirmed that Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Castle are returning.

There are no surprises among the dramas coming back, and Modern Family obviously is a breakout hit on the comedy side. But Paul Lee, the president of ABC Entertainment, said the patience his network has shown with Cougar Town and The Middle slowly has started to pay dividends.

“There are many dramas that come out fully formed, but with comedies, typically, it takes time for that group to find themselves,” Lee said. “That’s what those half-hour slots are, great opportunities to do that.”

ABC announces ‘Cougar Town’ webisodes

Sunday, Jan 9, 2011

ABC has announced a new web-based spinoff from comedy-drama Cougar Town.

The webisodes, entitled ‘Andy’s Dreams’, will focus on the character of Andy Torres (Ian Gomez) as he takes a daily siesta.

Each episode will be comprised of one of Andy’s dreams, which take place in “an escapist and over-the-top fantasy world”.

A new installment will premiere on the show’s official ABC website each Wednesday evening for the next six weeks.

Cougar Town – which also stars Christa Miller as Andy’s overbearing wife Ellie – continues on Wednesdays at 9.30/8.30c on ABC.

“Scream 4” Early Test Screenings

Saturday, Jan 8, 2011

The screening, which took place Thursday, January 6th in Pittsburgh, elicited a number of positive reactions which can be found strewn across the internet, from Twitter to Scream-Trilogy.net to IMDB.com. (Thanks to /Film for finding the quotes.) Check out the various reactions below:

From DanielleRocks of Scream-Trilogy.net:

“It was phenomenal! What can I say. This outshines the 3rd one easily. Definitely the bloodiest of all of them, but I feel like they’ll edit some of it down. An unrated DVD would be nice to have though. All the acting was superb. Not one flaw. The opening scene was hilarious and brutal. Definitely a lot of great Williamson writing. The characters all felt very genuine. Gale was back to her bitchy self, and had a bunch of great one-liners. The ending was insanity. Easily the best of all the series, in my opinion, anyways. The crowd experience was great, and everybody was totally into it. Cannot WAIT to see this in theaters come April. Hopefully they don’t change anything. Loved it loved it loved it.”

Here’s a bulleted breakdown of other reactions to Scream 4, almost all of which were glowing:

  • Scream 4 has the best opening scene of the series — smart, hilarious, and absolutely brutal
  • The movie is very similar to the original Scream and nearly as scary
  • It’s better than Scream 2 and 3
  • One of the roles was severely miscast — the commenter declined to say which one

Alas, there was one at least one person in attendance whose reaction was, shall we say, less than positive. /Film points out one viewer who thought the ending was very dragged out and wasn’t impressed with the killer.

Thankfully, there’s still time to improve, because the print – which was between an hour and forty-five minutes long and two hours – was far from finished, as it was missing more than a few effects shots.

The official Scream 4 plot sees Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, now a self-help book author, returning home to Woodsboro as the final stop on her book tour. She reconnects with Sheriff Dewey, played by David Arquette, and Gale Weathers, played Courteney Cox. Death and mayhem, of course, ensue shortly thereafter.

Courteney Cox Nominated for WIN Awards

Wednesday, Dec 8, 2010

The 2011 Women’s Image Network (WIN) Awards will be honoring some big names come January 18. The WIN organization has presented these honors since 1993, awarding recognition in 13 categories which “create dimensional female media images which shape positive public opinion about the value of women and girls.”

Several well known names have been nominated for the awards, including Susan Sarandon and Maggie Smith for actress in a mini-series, Jane Lynch, Courtney Cox, and Cheryl Hines for actress in a comedy series, and Jada Pinkett Smith and Chloë Sevigny for actress in a dramatic series.

Oscar winner Elizabeth Taylor, is being honored for her “artistic genius and her HIV/AIDS activism” according to Phyllis Stuart, WIN’s founder. The altruistic activist is being given the Living Legend title.

Taylor is no stranger to television, either. Though most today might recognize her for her White Diamonds perfume commercials (filmed many years ago, however), she has done an occasional guest spot on quite a few series over the years as well as having done several TV movies and even the North and South Book II mini-series. The Simpsons fans also boast of her pivotal voicing of Maggie Simpson’s first spoken word.

Full nominations can be found here.
