Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on Cougar Town

Wednesday, Mar 30, 2011

Question: I’m a big Cougar Town fan. I was wondering if the finale will end with a cliffhanger? —Heather
Ausiello:
“The finale is not a cliffhanger, but it is momentous,” responds exec producer Bill Lawrence. “We did a lot of big stories — if you can think of what each character’s big story might be, we address it head on. There are stakes-y things for every character on the show besides Ellie and Andy, and that’s because they are somewhat of a constant. And we like them being a very successful married couple.” Speaking of enduring duos that make us cackle, if you’re not following Lawrence and his real-life wife Christa Miller (a.k.a. Ellie) on Twitter — at @VDOOZER and @ChristaBMiller respectively — you, my friend, are missing out. They’re Al and Peg Bundy only richer and more self-aware!

Jennifer Aniston ‘too busy for Cougar Town’

Tuesday, Mar 29, 2011

Courteney Cox has suggested that Jennifer Aniston is too busy to return to Cougar Town.Aniston, who previously worked with Cox on Friends, appeared in Cougar Town‘s second season premiere as a therapist. However, Cox told E! Online that there are currently no plans for Aniston to reprise her role.

“I don’t think she will come back on the show,” she said. “That is the busiest woman ever. I would love it if she wanted to.”

Cox also dropped hints about what is to come in Cougar Town, which returns with new episodes in the US on April 18.

“The characters get richer and richer, and maybe someone is going to want to have a kid, and maybe someone’s not,” she teased. “Maybe someone runs away and starts to act more like their father, maybe not.”

Did Courteney Cox Want More Friends? “I Wish We Hadn’t Stopped”

Friday, Mar 25, 2011

I’ll get to the end of Friends and Cougar Town finale scoop in a sec, but first let’s talk Courteney Cox and Scream 4.

Most of the cast won’t reveal if they’re signed on for sequels 5 and 6 because that sort of gives away whether they’re killed in this new fourth installment.

However, Cox will tell ya…

“I’m actually not,” she admitted to me yesterday while promoting the newly hatched Ghost Face killer flick, out April 15. “I mean, I can’t really say, but you know she could always die and I can always come back in a dream. But if I didn’t die, you know, it’ll just depend on if it all comes together.”

A true Hollywood veteran who’s been down this road before, she gives an answer that leaves all the doors open.

It’s been many years since Cox played Gale Weathers, but she didn’t mind going back. “I love Gale Weathers,” she said. “I love her tenacity. She’s just a strong-willed woman. And I think she’s a little fame-hungry and power-hungry and that’s why it’s so fun to play her.”

She’s also a bit envious with how “selfish” Gale could be. “I’m not in real life,” Cox smiled. “I wish I was a little more selfish.”

As for Cougar Town, there’s a big one-hour season finale coming in May. Now, it’s not a musical episode. “We’re dealing with something pretty heavy,” Cox teased. “You haven’t seen it yet, but someone wants to have kids and someone doesn’t. That’s all I can tell you about that.”

She quickly added, “I hope I don’t get in trouble for that.”

We’d like to assume she’s talking about Jules and Grayson (Josh Hopkins). And with that in mind, will those two ever get married? “I would say one day,” Cox said. “I think that as long as the audience is liking it and it’s working out, they’ll keep it going and they’ll be dealing with real-life issues.”

Cox says she has no timeline for Cougar Town, but would like it to go for at least five seasons.

“Ten’s a long time, but I wish we hadn’t stopped,” Cox said referring to Friends. “It would’ve been nice to do 11.”

What could they have done? “Oh my gosh. I don’t know, but I was watching an episode the other and day and it still holds up! Just holds up!”

Perhaps it’s time for that Friends movie. What do you think? Should there be a Friends flick? Sound off below.

Latest Cougar Town Actors VS Writers Video

Wednesday, Mar 23, 2011

It’s Cougar Town Wednesday here at Vulture, where the writers and actors of ABC’s on-vacation comedy put on a show just for you. Today’s installment of their Writers vs. Actors series is an Inception-like nesting doll of a standoff, with grievances appearing within grievances. It begins with a profanity-spewing Busy Philipps complaining that the writers always deliver their scripts late, but then spins off into an entirely different bonus beef. Bonuses: the definition of a “mega-rita,” some withering acting critiques, and footage of a slacking real-life ABC executive!

‘Cougar Town’ acting its age

Wednesday, Feb 23, 2011

With Courteney Cox’s “Cougar Town” settling into its second season, the sitcom has gotten away from its attention-grabbing title — especially now that Cox’s character, Jules, is settling down with her neighbor and boyfriend, Grayson (Josh Hopkins). Cox spoke with Metro about the changes — and cases of wine — the show is going through.

What did you think of your character finding a long-term relationship so soon?

I think it’s just a new approach. It’s a functioning relationship, but with two kind of really non-functioning people in some ways. I mean, Grayson doesn’t really know how to have a relationship.

When did wine become such a central part of the show?

You know, I do like wine, there’s no question, and [creator] Bill [Lawrence] does like to take things from our personal lives and put them in the story, but he exaggerates. So yes, I like wine and yes, I might fill a glass more than other people. And it’s not that the wine is real — although sometimes it is. You know, late in the day sometimes.

Will we see any other “Friends” on the show?

I don’t know. I mean, Matthew’s got his own show. Matt LeBlanc has got his own show. Lisa and Jennifer have already done it. And Schwimmer is probably doing so many things — probably directing — and just got married. I don’t know. I don’t think so.
