Scream 4 Exclusive: Emma Roberts To Join Cast

Thursday, May 27, 2010

With filming set to begin at the end of June, Weinstein’s Dimension Films is furiously putting its Scream 4 cast together. Young upstart Emma Roberts is set to join the ensemble team of Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell. And while the script from Kevin Williamson is being kept under wraps, sources tell EW.com that Roberts is expected to play Jill, one of the film’s primary heroines. Scream 4 returns to Woodsboro, the home of Sidney Prescott (Campbell). And Roberts will play a role similar to Campbell’s star-turning one in the original.

“I’m so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise,” says Roberts, who’s best known for playing Nancy Drew and last year’s Hotel for Dogs. “It’s the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I’ve ever done before.” Director/producer Wes Craven adds, “Emma’s talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.”

The three Scream movies has generated close to $300 million domestically. This latest iteration will shoot in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan beginning June 28.

Courteney Cox and Tina Fey receiving awards: A good day for funny ladies

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Is Courteney Cox the best comedienne on television these days? Is she the heir to Lucille Ball’s comedy throne? Apparently, she is this year, at least according to Women in Film, which is giving the Cougar Town star the 2010 Lucy Award. The honor is named after the great Lucille Ball and is given to an entertainer (man or woman) whose “creative works…exemplify the extraordinary accomplishments [Ball] embodied; whose excellence and innovation have enhanced the perception of women through the medium of television.” That’s pretty high praise for the erstwhile Monica Geller, who’s now in the company of past recipients like Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, Phyllis Diller, and…the cast of Sex and the City. You know who hasn’t been anointed? Shockingly, Tina Fey.

What?! How can this be? Ah, but don’t cry for Fey. Not to steal Cox’s thunder or anything, but Fey is getting an even better award: The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The seven-time Emmy winner will walk away with this most prestigious award — which “recognizes people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th century novelist and essayist” — on Nov. 13 at the Kennedy Center. And when she does, she’ll be only the third woman to do so since the award was created 13 years ago. (Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg preceded her.)

Hats off to Fey, who easily gets my vote for the funniest woman in show business today. In fact, she may even be the funniest entertainer around right now, regardless of gender. As for the second question I asked above, maybe it’s time we just retired that worn-out inquiry once and for all. Cuz let’s face it: There ain’t never gonna be another Lucy. Unless of course you argue that Fey is your Ball. In which case, I salute you.

UPDATE: Here is Fey’s response: “I am truly thrilled to receive this honor. I assume Betty White was disqualified for steroid use.”

‘Cougar Town’ set for name change?

Friday, May 14, 2010

Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town looks set for an overhaul after executive producer Bill Lawrence revealed plans to change the show’s name.

The series premiered in the U.S. in September, but the show has changed direction as the plot progressed and Lawrence admits TV chiefs are now considering revamping it.

He tells HitFix, “I’d like to (change the name), and the studio has been talking about it for three reasons. One, partly as a result of common sense and partly from their research, they find too many instances of… people saying they would never watch a show called Cougar Town… and then they screen an episode and people go, ‘Oh, I would watch this show’.

“Second… you would be hard-pressed to watch the last three episodes of the show and (if you) asked anyone for titles, I doubt anybody would say Cougar Town. Third, in a world where (network) ABC (is) looking to promote (TV comedy) Modern Family and capitalize on it to promote all their new shows next fall, anything you can do to create some kind of dialogue about your existing show is smart and savvy.

“The reasons not to do it I think solely come down to business reasons.”

Courteney Cox: “I’m So Nuts About Antiques!”

Thursday, Apr 22, 2010

When it comes to her interior-decorating style Courteney Cox is no cougar. The older it is, the better!

OK! caught up with the star of Cougar Town Wednesday at the L.A. Antiques Show Opening Night Preview Party to celebrate its 15 Year anniversary and to benefit P.S. Arts.

“I’ve been coming to the events for quite a few years now,” Courteney told reporters.

On her show, Courteney’s passion seems to be men, but in real life she’d rather have a good antique instead!

“I’m so nuts about antiques and design,” she exclaimed. “That’s my passion and I love it!”

“I would say it’s kind of organic-modern,” Courteney said of her design style. “I like clean limes but I like, you know, wood and things.”

So does she think the best place is to look for antiques?

“I would say 1stdibs,” she shared.

As for her daughter Coco, she likes antiques too — in the form of toys!

“She’s into Barbies,” she said of what her daughter likes these days.

Mother’s Day is coming up and Courteney only has one request.

“To do whatever I want to do,” she said. “I don’t want a present.”

As for having having more children with her husband David Arquette or maybe adopting, Courteney’s not quite sure.

“Oh God, she exclaimed. “I don’t know!”
