Courteney Cox: Why We’re Getting Rid of Cougar Town

Thursday, Jun 3, 2010

Cougar Town is doing well for a newborn show, and they’re already looking forward to their second season on ABC . But we hear whispers that that the show’s name is going to be changed.

Hollyscoop previously reported that the show’s creator Bill Lawrence wants to change the name to attract a larger audience. He mentioned also that the show has turned more into an ensemble cast, and really doesn’t have anything to do with Cougars!

Hollyscoop talked with two of the show’s stars—Courteney Cox and Busy Phillips—at the the Women In Film event last night, and they told us their thoughts on the name change.

Courteney told us EXCLUSIVELY, “I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. It’s not a rumor we have really been thinking about it. I don’t know if we will. Maybe we don’t need to.”

She also added, “The show speaks for itself. It’s a true family ensemble.”

Busy Phillips also told us it’s all up to Lawrence what happens to Cougar Town. “Mr. Bill Lawrence has a mind of his own and will do what he really wants,” she explained.

Phillips went on, “I think there is a certain demographic of people, a certain type of person who is maybe changing the channel because they don’t like connotation of Cougar Town.”

“I think they are missing out on a really great fun show about friend and family,” she added, “Instead of about of an old lady who is trying to bang young guys which A) Courteney is not old and B) There are no young guys.”

Hey, keeping a show on TV these days is tough, so if a name change will make close-minded people tune in, then so be it!

Courteney Cox Says ‘Luck’ Plays Huge Role in Her Career

Thursday, Jun 3, 2010

Actress Courteney Cox picked up a top honor for her TVwork at the Crystal + Lucy Awards on Tuesday, June 1 night. The star’s best pal and former Friends colleague Jennifer Aniston was on hand to present Cox with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television at the Los Angeles ceremony.

In her acceptance speech, Cox credited good luck for her career successes. She told the audience, “So many good things have happened in my career when I least expected them to. Who knew that a Bruce Springsteen video would lead to a role on ‘Family Ties’ and that to the sleeper hit ‘Ace Ventura’, which probably helped land me the role on ‘Friends’?”

“I wish I could take credit for plotting and planning my career, but there’s a lot of luck involved. I guess it’s important to be prepared when you do get those big breaks.”

Cox wasn’t the only honoree at the Women in Film Foundation event – “Avatar” beauty Zoe Saldana was also feted as the Max Mara Face of the Future. The actress said, “I’m so honored and proud that a line like (clothing brand) Max Mara has been so supportive, not only in fashion but also for other fields in the arts like film. And to have the one award a year, where women get together and celebrate each other in Hollywood, is amazing.”

Courteney Cox Brings Famous Friend to Couples Therapy

Wednesday, Jun 2, 2010

Courteney Cox isn’t embarrassed to admit she regularly goes to therapy. And not just with her hubby David Arquette but also with her friend, Laura Dern!

“We really do go to therapy together,” Courteney confirmed as she accepted honors for Excellence in Television at last night’s Women in Film Crystal + Lucy awards. The confession came after Laura quipped that she brings Courteney with her to therapy sessions since her famous Friend can help figure out what’s wrong better than the shrink.

“Sometimes couples [therapy],” Cox added, referring to hubby David Arquette, who was looking on adoringly from the audience, “but more likely, just us.”

Courteney had another surprise famous face cheering her on from the audience on her big night…

BFF Jennifer Aniston, who won the Crystal award last year and gave a very memorable acceptance speech, was in the house to support Courteney.

No word if these two share their deepest secrets on the shrink’s couch. The rest of Courteney’s speech didn’t refer to any of Aniston’s woes. But she did give props to David.

“They say behind every great woman is a great man,” she said. “Well, actually, they don’t say that…but I do have one!”

And despite recent reports of this twosome being on the rocks, they looked perfectly happy together last night.

Courteney Cox: ‘Cougar Town’ Name Change Could Happen

Wednesday, Jun 2, 2010

Courteney Cox told Access Hollywood that there’s a possibility that the rumored “Cougar Town” name could actually change happen – and for now, the future of the show’s title is still up in the air.

“We’ve been talking about it for a long time,” Courteney told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on Tuesday at the Women In Film 2010 Crystal + Lucy Awards in Century City, Calif. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. I don’t know… I honestly don’t know.”

The 45-year-old actress said there’s a lot more to the ABC series than just middle-aged women prowling for younger men.

“This show is not just for women. It’s for women and men. It’s funny. It’s crazy. It’s kooky and you know it’s heartfelt and it’s all of that. So… we don’t people to get misled by the word ‘Cougar Town.’” Courteney explained. “It’s just about trying to get what the real show is about and we may do it or we may not.”

Courteney explained that if the show does change its name, she still wants her character, Julie Cobb, to have the opportunity to pounce on fresh meat.

“If I don’t work out with the neighbor, Grayson, I still want to go out with some younger men,” she said of her character’s current relationship on the show with actor Josh Hopkins. “So, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I mean this is my shot, just don’t stray to far away from ‘Cougar Town.’”
