Perry turns Cox down on ‘Cougar’ role

Monday, Nov 9, 2009
Courteney Cox has revealed that Matthew Perry rejected an offer to feature on her Cougar Town series.

The pair co-starred in Friends from 1994 until 2004, playing Monica Geller and Chandler Bing respectively. Their characters ended up marrying during the long-running comedy show’s seventh season.

The 40-year-old actor passed on the chance to rekindle their on-screen romance on the ABC show, Contactmusic reports.

“I did ask Matthew if he’d play my boyfriend on the show,” Cox told Us Weekly. “He thought it was a little much after Chandler and Monica.”

Cox’s former Friends castmate Lisa Kudrow was previously announced to guest star as a dermatologist on Cougar Town.

ABC recently optioned Perry’s untitled comedy project, which he will co-write, executive produce and star in.

Courteney Cox Talks Bringing Her ‘Friends’ To ‘Cougar Town’

Wednesday, Oct 28, 2009

Lisa Kudrow is heading to “Cougar Town,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Courteney Cox told TV Guide that her former TV “Friend” has been asked to appear on the show during November sweeps, and on Monday night, a rep for ABC confirmed to Access the deal has been finalized.

“If it all works out, she’ll play a dermatologist that my character can’t stop going to even though the doctor is mean to me,” Courteney told TV Guide. “She’s the best in town at what she does and I become addicted.”

The pairing of Lisa and Courteney will be the second time the two have reunited for a project in recent months.

In June, Courteney played the part of a psychic on Lisa’s Internet series, “Web Therapy.”

And Lisa isn’t the only “Friend” Courteney has approached for her hit ABC comedy.

She told TV Guide she also asked her former “Friends” husband, Matthew Perry, to appear as another love interest.

“I did ask Matthew if he’d play my boyfriend on the show,” she said. “He thought it was a little too much after Chandler and Monica.”

Courteney has also mulled over the idea of bringing Jennifer Aniston to her show about a single mom who starts dating younger men.

“I’d love for her to be on the show, too,” Courteney said. “Obviously we can’t cast her so close to Lisa’s appearance but if there’s a great part for her, I’d send it right away. She’s younger than me so she can’t play my contemporary even though she did on Friends, but I think we can find something great for her to play.”

It’s official: Lisa Kudrow headed to ‘Cougar Town’

It’s not an actual Friends reunion, but I’ll take it: Lisa Kudrow has signed on to guest star opposite ex-Friend Courteney Cox on Cougar Town, an ABC spokesperson confirms.

“She’ll play a dermatologist that my character can’t stop going to even though [she’s] mean to me,” Cox told tvguidemagazine.com.

The Cox-Kudrow reunion episode will shoot next month and air in early 2010.

Lisa Kudrow Coming to “Cougar Town?”

Phoebe at 40?

The rumor is that Lisa Kudrow will join Courtney Cox for a November sweeps episode of Cougar Town.

According to TV Guide, it’s not a done deal — but it’s close. Just don’t expect Kudrow to be another cougar. Instead, she’ll guest star as a dermatologist that Jules (Cox) can’t stop seeing — even though she’s got quite a mean streak.

Kudrow isn’t the only former Friend on the star’s wishlist. She would also like to see Matthew Perry play one of her boyfriends. Wouldn’t that go against the show’s premise? Of course, she’s also got her eye on best buddy Jennifer Aniston.

Cougar Town features Cox as a 40-year-old single mom with a 17-year-old. It also stars Christa Miller and Busy Philipps. It airs every Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. (EST) on ABC.
