Channel 7 axes Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town after ratings plunge

Wednesday, Apr 28, 2010

CHANNEL 7 boss David Leckie famously declared Cougar Town was a “s— show” – and viewers have agreed.

The series, starring Courteney Cox as a 40-something single woman looking for younger love, has been dumped from Seven’s program schedule after its ratings plunged.

The show was yanked from its Thursday night timeslot, as was the comedy How I Met Your Mother.

The shows have been replaced by repeats of the crime drama Criminal Minds.

The move comes after Seven axed its failing Thursday night footy show, The Bounce , at the weekend.

Cougar Town was launched in February with 1.4 million viewers. Last week, just 626,000 tuned in.

A Seven spokeswoman said Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother were likely to return later in the year.
